The problem with wearing your heart on your sleeve is this - what do you do when you wear a top with no sleeves? With the many funny t shirt designs available today it seems that for those people who prefer wearing t shirts during the summer rather than woolly cardigans with tweed elbow patches there's an abundant choice of alternative ways to say what you feel.
The trouble is that whereas hearts on sleeves generally tend to imply a certain sense of emotive love, care, compassion, understanding and loyalty, funny t shirt designs tend to expose a slightly darker side to the soul. Whether it's political t shirts lambasting the UK government, religious t shirts which poke fun at, well, just about anyone really, or even t shirts which focus on the troubles and toils of everyday life in this once great country, getting your point across has never been easier.
As a nation we've become something of a butt for the jokes of most of the world. Perhaps because we've crumbled so far down from being the thumping heart of a mighty empire to a small, grey, rather damp little island which seems horribly obsessed with fairly minor issues whilst completely ignoring the more serious problems we ought to be facing.
Of course, whilst a read of the paper (brought to you by your faithful four legged friend, along with your slippers) over your morning crumpets will reveal a plethora of tales to make your hair curl and your blood pressure get a nose bleed it's so high, there are plenty of problems closer to home which can be just as effective in helping you to find a focus for your spleen venting.
For example, quite a few people have partners. Perhaps some have even been gullible enough to end up marrying them in the hope that they will be the first couple in the history of mankind to actually enjoy a lifetime of wedded bliss. If you happen to have a wife then the chances are that there will be at least one thing they do each day which really winds you up. If you have a husband, then there's almost certainly at least one thing he does each day which doesn't.
From little habits like leaving the loo seat up, refusing to ask for directions when lost, or making those mumbling sounds when you're talking at the back of his head, fully aware that he isn't actually listening to a word you're saying, or even a word he's saying back to you. Mind you, it does take skill to be able to hold a conversation whilst totally oblivious to what both people are saying at the same time. But then of course husbands have to suffer that dreaded phrase which they know is the start to several hours of excruciating argument: "Don't you remember...?"
It seems that men's and women's brains are wired completely differently. Men's brains are wired in serial. The cogs start moving, the juice starts flowing and the first bulb lights up, then the second, then the third. Everything goes brilliantly until the fifth bulb, which isn't quite working as expected. The instructions were thrown away of course because men don't need instructions, and the tool they need is in the attic, where they'll come across some fascinating memorabilia which will take them back to their college days and take the rest of the afternoon.
Women's brains are wired in parallel, which means that as soon as they get going every bulb is on and working fine thank you very much. They even have enough energy left over to rustle up a six course dinner and relate an entire conversation word for word held over eighteen years ago.
Yes, when it comes to funny t shirt designs there's no end to the sources of inspiration on offer. Today it's even possible to have your own thoughts printed on a t shirt for the world to see, and at least one website offering cash for your comments. Perhaps the rage against the daily life of a 21st century UK family could be a source of financial gain after all?
