The Linen Pant

The linen pant should be the first thing on your warm-weather entertaining checklist. Let's talk function first. Many women immediately run to their cotton clothes for hot outdoor events, thinking they will remain the coolest. They avoid linen garments for the wrinkling factor. This thinking should be reversed.

One hundred percent linen fabrics in most weights and qualities are actually more absorbent, stronger, and cooler than your go-to cottons. And, if you look, many of today's linen garments are treated to resist wrinkles as you go about your day in the sun.

When looking to incorporate the linen pant into your fashion vocabulary, be certain to keep these three key points in mind.

Go natural: From pure optic white and ivory to warmer earth tones like flax, tan, toast, sand, cement, Prada shoes for men and even pale caramel, what is really in a color name? Just know that your first pair should be pale and warm. This choice will give you the option to toss just about anything on as a top, from a casual and bright persimmon tank to a chic cotton jacket in nautical navy blue. And don't worry about your lower half looking thicker due to the pale color. The linen pant is meant to float around the leg, offering ease and forgiveness, no matter your size, so size it up if necessary.

String yourself along: Drawstring-style linen pants are first cousins to your tried-and-true favorite pajama pant style. Look for full stovepipe legs, optional pockets, and a self-belt built into the wide width shoes for women as a slim drawstring. No need for your own belt. What a nice break! So you can slip into them as easily for a poolside margarita party (pairing them with an understated pale pink button-down or lace tank) as you will slip into pajamas when you are ready for bed later that evening. For after a few ladylike runs into Tequilaville, you just might just find yourself sleeping in them, and comfortably.

Be true to yourself (and your size): The linen pant should fit comfortably on your natural waist or slightly lower, skim the hip and backside with a smidge of room, and have an airy float around the leg, offering a slight break at the foot. What is the reason the fit is so important on such a loose, easy pant? Linen has a tendency to lose its shape as you wear Prada shoes for men and keep the impression of your seated shape – long after you have gotten up. So to avoid views of you with an oddly saggy bottom, hips that look magnified, and the elephant leg look, be sure that your pair fits you with perfection before you invest.
