However, nowadays these shoes are worn by all fashion conscious women. The design of the stilettos originally came from Kristin S. Wagner but they became popular only after 1950s as fashion footwear. The stilettos came up with a new form of technology using a stem or supporting metal shaft embedded in the heel. The revival of this opulent style can be attributed to Roger Vivier, the designer. It is since then that these designs became popular in the market.

With passage of time, the stiletto high heels became popular more for their erotic appeal than their ability to enhance the wearer's height. These shoes have now become a very common fetish fashion accessory. After gaining popularity in the 1950s in the fashion market, they reached a more refined shape in the 1960s. The toes became as elongated and slender as the stilettos themselves in the 1960s.

This style of the high heel shoes officially faded away from the scene after the beginning of the Beatle era. They started becoming popular at the street level. Women then started to give them up when they could no longer find these high heel shoes in the mainstream shoe shops. Very soon, another version of stilettos was reintroduced by Manolo Blahnik in 1974. These heels were stocked in various stores of London. The old and unsold stocks of the stilettos were being sold in the street markets and they soon became popular with the fashion tribes of 1970s and punks.

Afterwards, round toe footwear with slightly thick semi stilettos were sold in the market. These shoes were very often worn as office wears with broad shouldered suits. This specific style of stilettos survived till 1980s. However, the style completely disappeared in the 1990s when college going girls and fashion conscious women took to wear shoes with block and thick heels. The slim, sleek and slender high heels came back in the fashion footwear industry after 2000 when young girls and women started wearing office wears or jeans with these heel shoes.
